Guest Entry - The visually challenged drive

Here is a guest entry made by Rutger Semp! I stole the guest entry idea from Dan Hagen.

The visually challenged drive

As some of you may know I went skydiving about week ago. Ofcourse I had it filmed.

What I got was a dvd showing me getting ready to jump, jumping, and eventually hitting the ground.

Some of my friends filmed it from the landing site, and I wanted to make on big montage out of it, so I decided to rip the dvd.

...

Lets just say that didn't go as planned.

First I tried to show the dvd to my mother (who by the way totally flipped out when I told her I jumped out of a plane at 16.000 feet, lol)

I put the dvd in my dvd player, press play...and it says "NoDisc".

...ok. So I take out the dvd and I put it in my computer.

Again, nothing. #@@%^$#^#$! It worked at my dads house and at my friends house, what's wrong with this thing!?

I tell my mother I'll show her some other time, seeing as how the machine won't agree with me.

I thought maybe it'll play the ripped file, so lets just do that first.

I went on a mission troughout the internet, desperatly searching for a dvd ripper that actually WORKED.

The dvd I'm talking about was in a format called dvd+.

On my dvd drive itsself it said: DVD RW +/-, so I figured it could read and write both formats.

I downloaded like a million different dvd rippers, but none of them would rip it, or even admit there was a dvd LOADED.

Even Nero 7 (for wich I actually paid, lol) had the guts to tell me I was insane and I should insert a disc before trying to rip it.

So I went on yet another desperate search for how this was possible, and how I could get rid of the problem.

I remembered ince hearing something about different regions, and how you had to set up you dvd to your region.

So I went looking for some kind of patch or firware update that would make my computer recognize this dvd.

Nothing...

So I went into my system info, and looked for the exact type and brand of my dvd rewriter (it said nothing on the thing itsself...)

It turned out to be a Sony NEC 7170, so I went to NEC.com and went looking for my dvd player, hoping for some support or FAQ.

I was redericted to http://www.sonynec-optiarc.com/products/hhid_dvdrw/index.html# , Where I found the specs of my DVD...

It can WRITE this:

DVD+/-ROM

DVD+/-Video

CD-ROM(mode1,mode2)

CD-ROM XA/

CD-I

CD-DA(Audio CD)

CD Extra

CD-TEXT

PhotoCD

Video CD

it can READ:

DVD- ROM

CD- ROM

WHAT THE SON OF A SHIT IN A BAG OF FUCKING NUTCRAP!?

IT CAN WRITE STUFF IT COULDN'T READ BACK!?!?!

HOW IS THAT USEFULL, OR AT ALL LOGICAL!?!?!?

I COULD BY ACCIDENT BACKUP MY ENTIRE HARDISK ON DVD+, AND I'D NEVER BE ABLE TO ACCES IT!

THE STUPID THING IS LIKE A BLIND MAN! HE CAN DRAW A PICTURE, BUT HE COULDN'T LOOK AT IT AGAIN!!!!

WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOULD YOU MAKE AND SELL SUCH A CONTRAPTION!? WHY THE CRAP DID THEY BUILD ONE IN MY COMPUTER!

ITS ABSOLUTE FULL 100% SHIT!

I'D HAVE TO BUY A SECOND DRIVE TO OPEN WHAT I MADE ON THE FIRST ONE!

....wait a sec..THOSE FILTHY MONEYHUNGRY BASTARDS!

that's it. I'm gonna sue them

And I'm gonna make sure all evidence against me is put on DVD+,

so that it gets lost forever....

Well, long story short, this pissed him off. I thought it was a laugh, hopefully you guys did as well!
Sorry for the lack up updates guys. I've been extremely busy, as some of you may know.

Hahah, dude... indeed that is a pretty stupid optical drive there. Major WTF. :P
